LADIES FIRST!

In this exhibition, the SCHAUWERK Sindelfingen brings together some of today’s most renowned female artists. LADIES FIRST! is the museum’s first show that is dedicated exclusively to the female artists who are represented in the Schaufler Collection. Nearly 100 works, including works from Isa Genzken, Roni Horn, Barbara Kruger and Jessica Stockholder, show a range from photography to video to painting to installations. Some of these works are being shown for the first time in the SCHAUWERK Sindelfingen.

The Schaufler Collection, hosted by the SCHAUWERK Sindelfingen, has included distinguished international female artists for more than 20 years. Collectors Peter Schaufler and Christiane Schaufler-Münch showed an early interest in aspiring female artists, and today they have impressive groups of works from Sylvie Fleury, Katharina Grosse, Rosemarie Trockel, and many more. LADIES FIRST! presents the work of more than 30 female artists. Their works provide an overview of the multifaceted developments in art over the last 35 years. The selection of female artists throws a special light on the Schaufler Collection. At the same time, these works illustrate, in their heterogeneous composition, the different artistic positions that women have occupied in recent decades. The exhibition is therefore not designed as a contribution to the gender debate, or as a feminist statement, but rather as a selection from the Collection through a female lens.
