"Everything about one color”—that was the motto of the thematic exhibition at the SCHAUWERK. If the works of the Schaufler Collection were quantified by color, red would lead by far. Not only in the history of art but in the history of culture generally, the color red occupies a prominent position. Red points to central areas of human existence, and no other color has as many emotions associated with it: from love to shame to anger. ROTesque, a presentation of works in the collection, showed works in which shades of red play the major role. The wealth of materials and meanings of the various genres resulted in an exciting comparative perspective. It featured fifty-five works by forty-three artists, including Martin Creed, Lucio Fontana, Gotthard Graubner, Katharina Grosse, Anish Kapoor, and François Morellet.
