For its opening, the SCHAUWERK Sindelfingen showed a representative section of the Schaufler Collection. Paintings, sculptures, light works, installations, and photographs from the past fifty years were on view as a prelude, including many works that had never been exhibited publicly before.
The presentation of around 170 works offered a view into the artistic passions of the Schauflers: works by the ZERO movement and its precursors were among their first acquisitions in the early 1980s. A separate room in the SCHAUWERK was dedicated to them, with works by Günther Uecker, Heinz Mack, Otto Piene, Piero Manzoni, Lucio Fontana, and others. In addition to a room with light works by Dan Flavin, François Morellet, and others, another room brought together great names from current art photography such as Thomas Struth, Andreas Gursky, Thomas Demand, and Candida Höfer. One section of the spacious former production hall for BITZER was dedicated to the theme of color, with works by Rupprecht Geiger, Günter Fruhtrunk, and Ettore Spalletti.
Other focuses of the collection were represented by Minimalist works by Imi Knoebel, Jean-Marc Bustamante, John McCracken, and Donald Judd and by Conceptual art, including Das Jahr 1974 (The year 1974), a work by Hanne Darboven and Joseph Kosuth’s Word, Sentence, Paragraph.
