Andreas Vogel's Spotify playlist

The Stuttgart-based DJ and pop culture expert Andreas Vogel has compiled a Spotify playlist for Mario Schifano.

“Mario Schifano was a jazz fan and gave his early paintings titles of tracks by Ornette Coleman and Eric Dolphy. However, he later claimed never to have listened to their music. In the 1960s, the artist danced to Latin soul in New York City and was a regular at the Piper Club in Rome. The artist appreciated composers such as Erik Satie, Terry Riley, and La Monte Young. Schifano was ‘under the influence’ of experimental rock music and even influenced musicians of later generations himself. Throughout his life, he was interested in many forms of communication—music as an immediate expression of connection and presence.” (Andreas Vogel on his selection)
